Summary
Lightsoft
is committed to producing excellent software applications and
utilities for personal computers for a wide variety of tasks -
as diverse as weather monitoring, software development and entertainment. We are
primarily a software development house and have been around as
Lightsoft since 1994.
Lightsoft is primarily an Internet entity.
Company Aims
Lightsoft has
a goal: to write good software that people enjoy to use. We put
together a mix of usability, quality, measured quantity (not too
much, not too little), technology and a little fun and then add
a lot of hard work on our part.
We write a wide variety of software. Hopefully it shows that we
both use and care about our software. We certainly enjoy writing
and improving it for people around the world.
Company
Origins
The core of Lightsoft was born way back in the early 1990's when
Amigas and Atari ST's were in vogue. The company was made viable
by the advent of cheap, fast (300 baud!) modems and decent BBS's.
The first published program was "DynaRAM" for the Atari
ST, which was a tiny OS patch to display the amount of free memory
on the desktop.
The People
Lightsoft is currently run by Rob Probin and Stuart Ball - who
originally founded it.
Both are professional software engineers (people who can design
and program) who've worked on large and small projects and have
evolved to know many high level languages and design techniques.
Rob has been writing computer software almost as far back as he
can remember. As well as writing software for most of the personal
computers since 1981, he's also programmed multi-user systems
(Unix) and done both software and hardware design for embedded
systems. Rob has a degree in Engineering and has experience in
cross-functional new-product-design management.
Stuart is a graduate of the No 1 Radio School, RAF Locking where
he Studied Aeronautical engineering and computing. He then went
on to work on various flight, radar and electronic warfare simulators.
Stuart is now a senior software engineer working both on personal
computer software and embedded devices.
There are also a good number of people who have been part of Lightsoft
in the past and are still "honourary members" of the
Lightsoft team. Some of their work is on the web site. In addition
there have been many good people - it is unfair to call them users
- who have supported us over the years. Although they are not
named here, their efforts are appreciated. You will also find
some of their work on the web site.
